Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb Steak (ribeye, sirloin, or flank) Any cut works, but these absorb the marinade beautifully.
Seasonings
  • 1/2 cup Soy Sauce Offers a salty umami flavor.
  • 1/4 cup Olive Oil Adds richness and moisture.
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced Fresh garlic brings depth of flavor.
  • 2 tbsp Honey Balances the savory elements and promotes caramelization.
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper Adds a slight kick.
Optional Add-Ins
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice For tangy brightness.
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Herbs (rosemary or thyme) To enhance the flavor.
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper For a spicy kick.

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather your ingredients: Collect all the marinade components in one place.
  2. Mix the marinade: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, honey, and black pepper. If using optional ingredients, add them now.
  3. Prepare the steak: Score the surface of the steak lightly to help the marinade penetrate better.
Marination
  1. Place the steak in a zip-top bag or a shallow dish, then pour the marinade over. Ensure the steak is well-coated.
  2. Seal the bag or cover the dish and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to overnight.
Cooking
  1. Remove the steak from the marinade and discard any leftover marinade.
  2. Cook your steak to your preferred doneness.
  3. Let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing to keep it moist.

Notes

Don’t over-marinate; aim for 1-4 hours. Pat dry before cooking for a great sear.
