Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together the cake flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
- In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing.
Baking
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting
- While the cakes cool, prepare your cream cheese frosting by mixing softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Gradually add confectioners’ sugar and vanilla extract until well combined.
Assembly
- Once the cakes are cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of cream cheese frosting, and top with the second layer.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake.
Serving
- Slice and enjoy your homemade Red Velvet Cake!
Notes
For best results, use room temperature ingredients and high-quality cocoa powder. Adjust food coloring to achieve desired hue. Avoid overmixing to maintain light cake structure.
