Preparation
- Preheat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal patties, about 4 ounces each, without overworking the meat.
- Sprinkle each patty with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.
Cooking
- Place the patties on the hot skillet. Smash each one down flat immediately using a heavy spatula. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until a nice crust forms.
- Flip the patties and place a slice of cheese on each. Cook for an additional 2 minutes or until the cheese has melted.
Assembly
- On a plate, layer lettuce, pickles, and any desired toppings. Place the cooked patties on top.
- Drizzle with homemade or store-bought Big Mac sauce.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Don't press down too hard while smashing the patties to avoid dry burgers. High-fat beef is recommended for juiciness. Feel free to prep patties ahead of time and store them in the fridge.
