Method
Dough Preparation
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warmed milk and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, egg, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture to this mixture along with the flour.
Kneading and Rising
- Mix until a dough forms, then transfer it to a lightly floured surface.
- Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping the Bread
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle.
- Brush melted butter over the surface and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly.
- Cut the dough into strips, stack them, and then cut the stacks into squares.
Assembling and Second Rising
- In a greased loaf pan, arrange the stacked squares vertically.
- Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Store wrapped in plastic wrap or foil at room temperature for up to 3 days. Freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
