Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality cocoa for best flavor.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water Incorporating boiling water makes a thinner batter for a tender cake.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 13x18 inch sheet pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and blend until smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water until well combined.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
  2. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before frosting with your favorite chocolate frosting.

Notes

For a more chocolatey cake, consider adding chocolate chips to the batter before baking. Letting the cake cool in the fridge before serving enhances flavors.
