Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onion until the beef is cooked and the onions are translucent (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat.
- In a bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
Layering
- In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
- Pour half of the sauce mixture over the potatoes, followed by half of the cooked beef and onion mixture. Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients and top with the rest of the cheese.
Baking
- Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let it sit for about 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
You can assemble the casserole ahead of time and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. Consider adding vegetables like sliced bell peppers or peas for added nutrition.
