Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg. Stir until well mixed.
- In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, buttermilk, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix in the mashed bananas until well-blended.
- Gently fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Add in the pecans at this stage if desired.
- Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for about 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the banana bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
Notes
For best results, use very ripe bananas and avoid overmixing to maintain a fluffy texture. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for longer storage.
